DSTROSMASH!

This is a basic placeholder page for DSTROSMASH!, a remake of ASTROSMASH! for the Nintendo DS.

If I have the time, I’ll update this with a nice instruction “manual” to go along with the game, but for now just download the game and take a gander at the README, which should tell you enough to get started. If you’re a weirdo, check out the code.

Greetings and Hail! Great coder. I must tell you that as a child, Astrosmash was my absolute favorite game to play. You've done an incredible job transferring it to the DS medium. May I suggest that the only differences I noticed are:
In the original, every thousand points scored landed you another ship increasing the quantity as shown above, the 2 times I've played it so far I didn't get extra ships. My last comment would be that there was an "Auto-fire" enable command which fired off a consistent shot repetitively without having to squeeze the side triggers of the original controller.
Again, amazing job. You've made my day!

  • WOW!  Excellent!  I used to love this game as a kid.  Downloading it now to give it a try!
  • Thanks for the writeup! I have to ask though -- are you sure it was on the Colecovision that you first played ASTROSMASH! ? The only remake I know of was actually for the 2600 -- the irony being that ASTROSMASH was originally meant to be an Asteroids clone to compete with the 2600's most successful action game. :)

Oh and by the way, let me know if the game works on your 3DS with an R4.
  • Digger Baber
it gets stuck and dose not load
  • What sort of hardware are you running it with?
  • Shadow666
Will u add the secret mode that was on the original game to make it like asteroids?
  • It was on my TODO list for a while, but I got tired of not finishing the game so I crossed it off the list.

I don't consider the current version of DSTROSMASH to be final, so you may see it in the future. ;-)

Fantastic! But is it possible to emulate the Intellivision with all his games?
  • Thanks! Yeah it's not a "perfect" clone, but I was trying to improve the game's responsiveness (it's rather sluggish on the original INTV) by remaking it; for that the project was a success.

As for emulators, no; at least not on the DS.

There are a PC few emulators, including a nice commercial package by the Blue Sky Rangers (who are now the legal owners of most Intv games; they're a good company who cares about the INTV, so it's in good hands):

If you're looking for a good free emulator, I would strongly recommend "jzIntv" ( http://spatula-city.org/~im14u... ) but I hear that "Bliss" (http://bliss.kylesblog.com/) is a good competitor.

I was actually considering porting jzIntv to DS since it's open-source, but I'm putting that idea on hold until the official "Intellivision Lives" pack is released for the DS (if it ever comes out):

It sounds like what you're looking for, but don't hold your breath (for an official emulator *or* one from me, hehe).
